Celebrating Our Purple Unicorns!

Dear ,

At Metro Music Makers, we think our teachers and therapists are pretty magical. In fact, we call them our Purple Unicornsβ€”those rare, one-of-a-kind people who are almost impossible to find. Somehow, we’ve been lucky enough to gather a whole team of them, and each year we celebrate their hard work and heart at our Purple Unicorn Awards Ceremony.

This year, we headed to Puttshack for some fun on the indoor course, lots of laughter, and a chance to honor our amazing team. And to make the celebration even sweeter, we had unicorn cookies baked by our very own student, Lily Tiemann, who recently started her own baking business (check her out below)! Yum!

Here are just a few highlights from the 2024–25 Purple Unicorn Awards:

✨ Most Lessons Taught – Tony (718!), Mark (652), and Victor (599)
✨ Innovation Award – Trae, for creating a unique Production Camp at his recording studio in Atlanta
✨ Retention Rockstar – Glenn, with 100% student retention
✨ Marvelous Mentors – Abigail, Mark, and Victor, for guiding others with care

And because we love a good laugh, we also handed out some silly superlatives, like β€œMost likely to play a violin in space” and β€œMost likely to write a blog that gets referenced in academic papers.”

Why do we do this? Because when our teachers feel supported and celebrated, they bring that same joy and energy to their students. It all ties back to our core value of the year: Pursuing Growth. When our team grows, so do our students!

We’re so grateful to have not just one Purple Unicorn, but a whole blessing of themβ€”did you know a pack of unicorns is actually called a blessing?! And we’re grateful for you, our families, for being part of this magical journey. πŸ’œπŸ¦„

Keep learning, keep growing, and let the music lead the way.

Pursuing Growth Isn't Just for Our Teachers!

With Pursuing Growth as our value for the year, we're seeing it everywhere on our team and among our students!

One such student is Lily Tiemann (mentioned above for her delicious unicorn cookies we enjoyed at our Purple Unicorn Awards). Lily started baking a lot during the pandemic (she was just 10 years old!), and before long, it was clear she had a real talent. But it didn't stop with talent; Lily has spent hours and hours in the kitchen, honing her craft. Before long, people took notice and Lily had a little baking business on her hands! She bakes customized cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Check her out on Instagramβ€”L.T. Bakes Cakesβ€” and send her an email if you'd like to order something. We love celebrating our students as they pursue growth!

Is your student pursuing growth beyond taking music lessons? We'd love to spotlight them too... let us know at info@metromusicmakers.com.

Join Us in Welcoming New Teacher Dave Worley

Dave is a musician and music instructor with over two decades of teaching experience. From his own studio to private and public schools, Dave has taught private lessons on guitar, bass, string bass, piano, trombone, trumpet, and tuba. He teaches across all styles and at all levels of playing.

Dave uses his knowledge of music history to inform the things the students learn. β€œThere is a continuum that music inhabits, and I like to show the evolution of the music that the student is working on through direct lines from other music,” he explains. β€œThe connections between the past and the present.”

We are excited to have Dave join our team! If you or your student would like to take lessons with Dave, reach out to us today.

What Parents Grown Children Are Saying...

Alex taught a piano lesson to Mr. King, a 94-year-old man who is blind. Mr King played the piano years ago.

Mr. King's daughter said, "Alex picked just the right Bach for Charles' first lesson.  He loved it very much!"
