The Part of Music Lessons You Don’t See (But Should Know About) |
Dear ,
When you watch your child take a music lesson, it might look like they’re just learning chords or practicing scales, but what’s really happening goes much deeper.
At Metro Music Makers, every lesson is rooted in our core values: being authentic, bringing your best, collaborating with kindness, pursuing growth, and staying flexible. Whether your child is working with one of our seasoned instructors or someone newer to the team, those values guide how we teach, connect, and support each student.
Our teachers bring their own strengths and styles to each lesson, and we support one another through mentorship, shared resources, and a collaborative spirit. That behind-the-scenes teamwork helps ensure that every child gets a lesson experience that is not only personalized but deeply intentional.
Because we’re not just teaching music.
We’re nurturing focus, perseverance, creativity, confidence—and the kind of self-expression that sticks with you for life.
If your child ever comes out of a lesson with a big smile, a new idea, or a sense of pride in something they just accomplished, know that it’s the result of a lot of care, trust, and heart happening behind the scenes.
What have you noticed?
Has your child ever surprised you with something they learned or expressed after a lesson? Hit reply and let us know—we might feature a few of your responses in a future newsletter!
Keep learning, keep growing, and let the music lead the way.

Congratulations to our April Student of the Month!
Congratulations to Amelia Tiemann, our April Student of the Month! Amelia has been studying music with Metro Music Makers since 2016. Over those nine years, she has learned piano, ukulele, guitar, and voice. Her current teachers are Abigail Sykes (piano) and Mark Grundhoefer (guitar). At 16 years old now, Amelia plays keys in the modern worship band and the guitar and keys in the high school band at her church.
Amelia's parents were the ones to sign her up for music lessons, as she shares. "I started piano lessons because my parents are very musical and wanted to give me a good music education too" ... but Amelia has her own reasons for why she plays the instruments she does.
"I play guitar because not only is it a sick instrument, but very useful for playing at any occasion," she shares. "And I play piano because I enjoy the beauty and power you can display just from pressing some keys."
As far as her listening preferences, Amelia listens mainly to alternative/art rock, but she enjoys pretty much everything. She shares that she doesn't really have one favorite artist, but some of her current favorites are Cocteau Twins, Kittie, Kate Bush, Charli xcx, Björk, The Cure, Jeff Buckley, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Bowie will always hold a special place in her heart.
"I love the self-expression and the emotion behind music, and how it can express those emotions so vividly but also vaguely," Amelia explains. "In my opinion, the best kind of song is one that leaves each listener with a different interpretation, but it still impacts us all the same way."
While Amelia loves music, she also has a lot of other pastimes. She loves writing, sketching, painting, playing video games, watching anime, doing cosplay, thrifting and upcycling clothes, reading, and hanging out with friends. She also participates in cirque and chorus at her high school, and she's learning to skateboard.
When asked about her proudest accomplishments so far, she shares she's proud of her art being chosen for display in the Atlanta airport, but also her fist wipeout on a skateboard—the sign of a true skateboarder. |

What Parents Students Are Saying |
"I’ve been with Metro Music for nearly five years—the past several have been with Tony Gibson, who has been a fantastic teacher. He has raised my abilities by helping me take an old song and while learning it, adding new skills each time. His approach to me is less clinical and more musical, and I’ve enjoyed it very much."
